On February 2, the anonymous Facebook profile Apolitical Page published a video showing a cleric sitting on a throne being led into a church by the hand. “Orthodoxy in Ukraine” – writes the author of the post.

Apolitical Page disseminates a video manipulation. In fact, the footage was not shot in the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, but in the Palmarian Catholic Church, which is a cult founded in Spain.

The video was not shot in the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The footage has been circulating on social media in the summer of 2023 and depicts the Palmarian Catholic Church, a cult founded in Spain. Father Braulio Maria, a representative of the same church, published the video on his official Instagram page on June 6, 2023. According to the post’s description, the footage shows “His Holiness Pope Peter III” in Seville, Spain.

Videos depicting the same ritual have been published on the church’s Facebook page.

La Iglesia de El Palmar de Troya in Seville was founded in 1974, after 4 students from the school claimed that Saint Mary had appeared to them. The cult considered Pope Paul VI a martyr and excommunicated subsequent popes. They separated from the Roman Catholic Church in 1978 (1;2) and elected their own popes.

It should be noted that the cult considers Adolf Hitler and Francisco Franco as saints. Former “Pope” Gregorio XVIII spoke to the Spanish media about the funding sources and dubious reputation of the Palmarian Church. Former clergyman Hines Jesus Hernandez, who left the church, got married and now lives in the Sierra Nevada, says the organization makes secret deals and evades taxes. “Everything is staged, especially in the financial direction,” he says after being a member of the cult for 32 years, adding that the church “covers up” the miracle of St. Mary. The former “pope” also says that religious cults are “brainwashing” children and adults with manipulative religious texts, especially prophecies of the coming of the Antichrist. However, the main driving force behind the ultra-conservative religious movement is money, and tax evasion is standard practice among the clergy. The ex-Pope, who denies stealing 2 million and the “Popemobile” (BMW X6), took documents with him after leaving the church, which he threatened to make public.

The currently proclaimed Pope by the Church is Peter III, aka Marcus Joseph Odermatius – the cleric featured in the video. After the cult chose him as “pope”, the rules became stricter – for example, he forbade his parishioners to go to the cinema and wear short-sleeved shirts. The cleric has excommunicated many people from the church and says that the Internet, like all other means of communication, is controlled by the Freemasons.

The false information about the Orthodox Church of Ukraine has been verified by “Myth Detector”  in the past as well. According to these false claims, “after the expulsion of the Russian clergy” from the church, Ukrainian churches became prone to anti-Christian behavior. See more:
