On May 29, a video collage with the following caption was disseminated on Facebook: “Member of the European Parliament who requested the suspension of visa-free travel for Georgia.” The video shows a man dancing in his underwear.

The video is being disseminated with a false description. In fact, it depicts Jano Klinec, a resident of Austria, who has no connection with the European Parliament, and often shares similar videos on his social networks.

The video shared on Facebook features the Tik-Tok logo but does not show the name of the account it was originally uploaded to. Other videos shared on social media (1, 2, 3) appear to be published by a Tik-Tok account called Dzairefr3wj. The account with the same name has only one video but has over 150,000 subscribers. That particular video states that the user has a new Tik-Tok account, Boss.dzairo.

An account called Boss.dzairo features a number of videos of a similar format, all of which show a dancing man – sometimes in nothing but underwear.

Jano Klinec has published two videos of the videos from Facebook on his Instagram page as well. He published the mentioned videos on the social network in 2023 (1, 2).

No information about the person depicted in the video can be found in open sources, including any claims that he is a member of the European Parliament. According to the information on his Facebook page, we find out that he is from Slovakia and lives in Austria. The place of work is Tyrol, the Austrian Alpine region.

The debate on the review of the visa-free regime with the European Union became active after the re-initiation and adoption of the so-called “Agents Law.” On April 25, the European Parliament adopted a resolution with 425 votes, in which one of the points concerned visa-free travel. In particular, the 13th point of the resolution states that the European Commission should timely assess the impact of the said bill on Georgia’s fulfillment of visa liberalization criteria. In particular, to assess the fundamental rights benchmark, which is a crucial component of visa liberalization with the EU.

False information about the MEPs is being disseminated somewhat frequently. “Myth Detector” systematically debunks such false claims. For more details, see:
