On October 6, a Facebook user supporting the ruling of the Georgian Dream party, posted a video collage showing a Ukrainian politician’s speech during the 2014 Euromaidan protests, an incident of physical violence by Ukrainian Commissariat employees against a civilian in 2024, and a cemetery of soldiers who died in the war. According to the post, the events of Euromaidan brought Ukraine only destruction and death instead of EU and NATO membership. The user also claimed that the individual delivering the speech in the video currently lives with his family in Norway.
The claim that the Ukrainian politician shown in the video lives in Norway with his family is disinformation. In reality, he has been serving in the Ukrainian army since the beginning of the full-scale invasion and is fighting alongside his son. Regarding the video showing violence against a civilian, an investigation has been launched, and the Commissariat employees involved have been suspended from duty.

Who is the person shown in the video?
The individual delivering the speech in the video is Ukrainian politician Oleh Tyahnybok, leader of the Ukrainian association “Svoboda.” He has served three terms as a member of parliament and was actively involved in the Euromaidan protests (the 2014 protests in Ukraine). The video clip comes from one of his speeches during this period. Notably, in the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Tyahnybok volunteered to fight in the war. He holds the rank of major and serves in the 128th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Other members of his family, including his brother and his 27-year-old son Hordiy, are also fighting in the Ukrainian army. Hordiy was wounded in battle in May of this year.

What do we know about the assault by Commissariat employees on Ukrainian citizens?
The video collage shows two men in military uniforms beating a civilian, who is eventually taken away by force in an unknown direction. The video, recorded on September 6, also shows another civilian being forcibly removed from the camera’s view shortly after. The Kharkiv Regional Recruitment and Social Support Center commented on the incident, stating that the two civilians in the video had refused to present their documents, which is illegal. They also claim that one of the civilians verbally insulted a center employee, escalating the situation. The men were eventually taken to the Recruitment and Social Support Center office for verification, where it was found that one of them was subject to mandatory military service and was instructed to undergo a military medical examination. The statement condemns the use of force by center employees, and an investigation has been launched, suspending their duties until its conclusion.
