On July 18, pro-government media outlets such as Kvira.ge, resonancedaily.com, newshub.ge reported on a statement made by David Kartvelishvili, a member of the “People’s Power” party. Kartvelishvili claimed that the US “National Security Agency” (NSA) obtained evidence linking Biden’s entourage to the attempted assassination of Trump. The post mentions that after the NSA sent its investigation data to the leaders of the Congress’s defense and security committees, Mike Johnson announced the creation of an independent investigative commission in Congress.

David Kartvelishvili’s statement was also shared on the “People’s Power” Facebook page.

The claim that the National Security Agency (NSA) has evidence linking members of President Biden’s entourage to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump is not confirmed by official sources.

On July 13, 2024, an attempt was made to assassinate former US President Donald Trump during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attacker, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire from a rooftop with an AR-15 rifle. As a result of the shooting, Crooks killed one rally participant, wounded two others, and damaged Trump’s ear. The attacker was neutralized on the spot by Secret Service agents. This incident raised several questions about security protocols, including why the rooftop from which the shots were fired was not secured and why there was a delay in the Secret Service’s response.

Following the assassination attempt, numerous narratives, conspiracy theories, and false information spread on social media, but no reliable source confirms that the NSA has any evidence linking President Joe Biden’s entourage to the attack on Trump. Reputable news outlets have detailed the chronology of the attack on Trump, the identity of the potential killer, procedural and security failures that allowed Crooks to carry out the attack, and the reactions of law enforcement and political figures, as well as the political implications of the attack, but none mention any NSA findings related to Biden or his entourage.

  • What Allegations Have Been Voiced Against Biden?

After the attack on Trump, Republicans, including Mike Johnson, accused President Biden and other Democrats of creating a tense political climate. They highlighted Biden’s rhetoric, particularly a comment he made to donors: “So, we’re done talking about the debate, it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye.” According to Republicans, this comment might have incited violence. In reality, Biden was referring to politically targeting Trump, not physically targeting him.

Mike Johnson emphasized the need for political leaders to focus on constructive political debate rather than language that provokes violence.

Ohio Senator James David Vance also spoke about the role of Biden’s rhetoric in the attempted assassination of Trump. South Carolina Senator Tim Scott claimed that the attempt was encouraged by radical leftists and corporate media portraying Trump as a threat to democracy.

In response, Joe Biden condemned the violence, called for unity among Americans, and stated that politics should be a place for peaceful debate, not a battlefield. Biden emphasized that contentious issues should be resolved at the ballot box, not with bullets. The Biden administration also halted TV ads and political communication, including coverage of Trump’s conviction by the New York court.

Thus, the allegations against Biden were based on his and other Democrats’ past rhetoric, which Republicans claimed contributed to a hostile environment. However, both Mike Johnson and Biden stressed the importance of resolving political disagreements peacefully.

  • What Do We Know About the Investigative Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Trump?

After the attack on Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson underscored the necessity for accountability and thorough investigation and announced the creation of a special bipartisan task force to investigate security breaches. The task force, according to Johnson, will have the authority to subpoena information. Additionally, Johnson called for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, stating that the security lapses were an unforgivable mistake. Johnson’s call for Cheatle’s resignation was joined by Democratic congressmen as well. On July 22, Kimberly Cheatle called the attack on Trump the “greatest operational failure” of the Secret Service in decades and acknowledged that the Secret Service had been warned about the suspicious individual. Cheatle also noted that the rooftop from which Trump was shot was assessed as a potential threat in the days leading up to the event. Initially, Cheatle rejected calls for her resignation, but on July 23, the director of the US Secret Service resigned.

On July 23, it was officially announced that a bipartisan task force would be created, consisting of seven Republicans and six Democrats, to investigate the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. The creation of the bipartisan task force also aims to examine the specifics of the incident, identify deficiencies, and hold accountable those responsible.

After the July 13 attack on former US President Donald Trump, various disinformation, factual inaccuracies, and conspiracy theories spread on social media. Some of them concerned the identity of Trump’s attacker and his alleged connection to Blackrock. Social media users also linked the attack on Trump to George Soros’s son. Additionally, disinformation was spread in the name of a US Secret Service sniper. For more on these topics, see “Myth Detector’s” materials:
