On December 2, anonymous Russian-language accounts on Facebook and Instagram (12) spread information claiming that Volodymyr Zelensky purchased a hotel in Courchevel, France, for 88 million. According to the posts, the 5-star hotel “Palace des Neiges” was sold by SBM Group to Film Heritage Inc. The description also states that Film Heritage Inc. is an offshore company owned by Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife, Olena Zelenska.

The posts also allege that this information was reported in French media.

The information claiming that Volodymyr Zelenskyy purchased an expensive villa in France is false. Reports about the hotel sale have been spread by a questionable French-language media outlet, registered on November 25 of this year, while the link, which according to the report leads to the hotel’s website, is fraudulent and was created on November 22.

Several fact-checking organizations ( DpaAfpFrance24) have published articles on this topic. Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation has also addressed the issue.

The claim about Zelensky purchasing a villa in France appeared on a French-language website, Les Echos de la France, which presents itself as a media outlet, on November 28. According to Whois Domain Lookup, the site was registered on November 25, just three days before the publication of the article.

According to the posts, the information was allegedly reported by various French media outlets. However, using relevant keywords to search online, we found no such information in any reputable media sources.

The Les Echos de la France article includes a hyperlink to the hotel’s website, which is currently inaccessible. An archived version of the link reveals that the site was indeed registered under the hotel’s name. However, according to Whois Domain Lookup, the site was registered on November 22.

The authentic version of the hotel’s website was created in 2007. Therefore, the newly registered site under the same name is fraudulent.

The archived version of the fake website states that the hotel is owned by Film Heritage Inc., an offshore company that was reportedly managed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife, Olena Zelenska, until 2019. However, the official website of Palace des Neiges does not mention that Film Heritage Inc. is the current owner of the hotel.

According to the latest information, the hotel was purchased in 2023 by the Monegasque company Société des Bains de Mer (SBM). This fact has been reported by various media outlets, but nowhere does it state that the hotel was resold and purchased by the Zelenskyy family.

It is worth noting that the claim that the Zelenskyy family spends Western money on personal luxuries has long been circulating and used as a Russian method to discredit Zelenskyy. Initially, disinformation spreads through a newly created Western media outlet, which is then cited by Russian sources. The Myth Detector has uncovered multiple pieces of disinformation on this topic.
