The photos of Giorgi Gakharia have been digitally altered. The original version of the photo shows traces of an assault on the politician’s face and bloodstains on his shirt.

On January 15, Giorgi Gakharia was assaulted in Batumi, at the Sheraton hotel. After the assault, he was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured nose and a concussion. On the same day, the Chairman of the German Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael Roth, posted a photo of Giorgi Gakharia on social media and condemned the assault. The photo shows the traces of the attack on his face and the bloodstains on his shirt. None of the photos or videos circulating on social media or in the media show him crying. According to members of the political party, the attack on Gakharia was orchestrated by Ivanishvili’s regime. On January 15, the pro-government TV company Imedi released a fragment from the video showing the confrontation between Dimitri Samkharadze and Giorgi Gakharia.
