The non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entity, Society “Kartuli” (Georgian) was registered in the registry of entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entities on April 29, 2024.
The purpose of establishing the organization was stated to be the protection of Georgia’s national values and interests amid a “war of values.” To achieve these goals, Society “Kartuli” demands, among other things, stricter legal responsibility for slander and hate speech, especially to protect the Patriarch of Georgia and the Georgian Orthodox Church from such expressions.
The members of the general assembly of the founders of Society “Kartuli” are: Giorgi Gabunia (Director), Omar Donadze, Jiki (Svimon) Jangulashvili, Valerian Asatiani, and Varlam Liparteliani.
The organization’s director, Giorgi Gabunia, is a supporter of neutrality, and one of its founders, judo athlete Varlam Liparteliani, is also on an electoral list of the Georgian Dream party’s electoral list. Other founders of the organizations (Valeri Asatiani, and Svimon Jangulashvili) often appear on pro-government media channels and express support for the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence.
