Society “Kartuli” (Georgian)

The organization “Kartuli” (“Georgian”) was founded in April 2024, ahead of the parliamentary elections, and is known for its pro-government stance.

Notably, two of its founding members, Giorgi Gabunia and Varlam Liparteliani, became members of Parliament through the ruling party’s list in the 2024 elections. The organization’s Facebook page actively shares public speeches and appearances related to Gabunia’s parliamentary work. Other founding members include Valerian Asatiani, former Minister of Culture under President Shevardnadze; Svimon Jangulashvili; and Omari Donadze. These founders have been vocal supporters of the law “On the Transparency of Foreign Influence” and advocates for stricter regulations on defamation and hate speech. They frequently appear in pro-government media.

The organization has declared its mission to be the protection of Georgia’s national values and interests amid what it describes as a “war of values,” positioning itself as part of a broader global struggle. According to its founders, the initiative aims to preserve Georgian identity and protect the Georgian language, culture, traditions, and values, while fostering an environment based on mutual respect.

The organization views secular liberalism and Western values as threats to Georgia’s traditional identity. Its public statements often reference the so-called “global war of values,” “aggression in the name of democracy,” and the influence of the “deep state” on Georgia.
