The Alliance of Patriots of Georgia is a pro-Kremlin-aligned party that advocates for direct negotiations with Russia and a policy of neutrality. For years, the party has attempted to gain public support by fueling Turkophobia and promoting the message that “if Russia is an occupier, so is Turkey,” aiming to shift attention from current threats to historical ones. In addition, party members have long dismissed the Geneva International Discussions format and promoted resolving conflicts through direct dialogue with Russia, excluding Western involvement, effectively seeking to transform Russia from a party to the conflict into its mediator.
To initiate dialogue with Russia, the party has made several visits to the country in recent years. In 2017, party leaders met with members of the Russian State Duma. In April 2022, following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, they met with Deputy Chair of the Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Vladimir Dzhabarov, and committee member Mikhail Sinitsyn, accompanied by Agasi Arabyan, the president of the “Russian Javakheti Diaspora” organization.
The Alliance of Patriots’ ties with Russia were confirmed by a journalistic investigation conducted by the Russian investigative project “Dossier Center,” founded by Kremlin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky. The investigation found that Russia supported the Alliance during the 2020 pre-election campaign.
The party’s leaders blame Georgia for initiating the war with Russia. One of its former leaders, Emzar Kvitsiani, who served in the 9th convocation of the Parliament of Georgia through the party list of the Alliance of Patriots, called for the abolition of the Law on Occupation and claimed that the 2008 war was started by Russia through Saakashvili.
Preceding the 2020 parliamentary elections, spreading anti-Turkish messaging was a part of the party’s campaign. This was reflected in promotional videos and outdoor advertisements, which portrayed Adjara as being under Turkish occupation.
The Alliance of Patriots of Georgia was founded in 2012 and officially registered on January 22, 2013. After winning 5.1% of the vote in the 2016 parliamentary elections, the party formed the “Patriots of Georgia” faction in Parliament. The party is chaired by Davit Tarkhan-Mouravi, with Irma Inashvili serving as its secretary general.
In June 2024, following the deregistration of the “Conservative Movement” by the Public Registry, the party joined the electoral bloc Alliance of Patriots of Georgia together with the party Georgian Idea. The bloc’s leaders announced their goal was to form national unity and bring national and conservative forces into Parliament.
The Alliance of Patriots is also affiliated with the media outlet Obieqtivi, founded in 2010 by Irma Inashvili, Mamuka Gobechia, Irakli Tsilikishvili, and Regan Teloian. Inashvili has not been involved in the management of the channel since 2014.
Obieqtivi’s editorial policy aligns with the party’s public rhetoric and is characterized by Turkophobic, xenophobic, homophobic, and anti-Western messaging and disinformation. The outlet highlights the perceived negative aspects of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations and presents military neutrality as a preferable alternative. The fact-checking platform Myth Detector has repeatedly exposed the disinformation disseminated by Obieqtivi.
