The red hat has the phrase “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) written on it in English, which was Donald Trump’s presidential campaign slogan. In the video, the woman says she will not sit next to the man wearing the MAGA hat and that wearing it in a public space is disturbing. The Trump supporter replies that Trump is the president, and he is not going to take the hat off. The person who posted it presents the video as a real incident.
The video showing an incident on a plane between a man and a woman seemingly caused by the pro-Trump MAGA hat is misleading. In reality, the video was posted on an entertainment TikTok account, which features many similar videos. The same individuals appearing in the video can also be seen in other videos on the TikTok account.
The TikTok account name Jamieandblake is visible in the circulated video. The identical video was published on the account on May 12. In the account’s description, Jamie and Blake state that they are actors and that the channel is created for entertainment purposes. Jamie and Blake do not appear in the specific video that was shared on Facebook.
The TikTok account features several other videos filmed on an airplane (1, 2, 3). Some of them show the same red MAGA hat, as well as the same man and woman, which suggests that they are actors and the videos do not depict real confrontations. Three of the videos follow the same plot (1, 2, 3): a female passenger argues with a man over his pro-Trump hat, then she calls the staff, and eventually is removed from the area.
In addition to the airplane-themed videos, the same woman and man from the circulated footage also appear together in several other videos (1, 2, 3), filmed in different locations and depicting humorous situations. Using the facial recognition tool PimEyes, we determined that the woman shown arguing with the plane passenger is actress Angie Campbell.
On Jamie and Blake’s Facebook page, there are humorous graphic images about Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk (1, 2, 3, 4), indicating that some of their jokes target the current U.S. administration.
Therefore, the video circulated on social media does not depict a real confrontation between a supporter and opponent of the U.S. president. It was created for entertainment purposes, and the TikTok account Jamieandblake features numerous similar videos starring the same actors.
