On May 18-19, pro-government media POSTV, news agencies INFO9 and Digest, as well as the Facebook page Gogaggg published a video of actress Nanka Kalatozishvili, in which she says: “I really envy Ukrainians.” The video continues with videos of Ukrainian cities and buildings destroyed by Russia, graves of injured people and soldiers, followed by the inscription: “They envy Ukrainians…”

The video of Nanka Kalatozishvili is being disseminated manipulatively. The actress is not referring to the ongoing war in Ukraine. She talks about the change of government through protests, recalls the example of Ukraine, and says that she envies the unity and integrity of Ukrainians.

On May 19, 2023, a demonstration titled – “Russian plane does not land in the European Union” was held in Tbilisi. The protest was against the renewal of direct air traffic between Georgia and Russia and Russia’s introduction of a visa-free regime for Georgian citizens. A fragment of the circulated video was also shot at the same rally. Nanka Kalatozishvili says in an interview with the journalist of “TV Formula” that she envies the Ukrainians, because they managed to change the pro-Russian government by “standing together and by not being able to break”. She does not say anywhere that she envies war.

”I really envy the Ukrainians…” “I really envy the Ukrainians. Maidan was a peaceful protest and they had a more pro-Russian and Russian government than us, and by their unity, by standing together and by not being able to break them, they managed to change that government.”

The manipulative distribution of videos is a common propaganda technique. Pro-government media and news agencies aim to amplify the government propaganda narrative as if opponents of the government want war in Georgia.
