On June 10, the pro-government TV channel POSTV posted information on its Facebook page, “POSTV – Analytics,” that Czech politician Markéta Gregorová was not re-elected to the European Parliament. To this information, POSTV added Gregorová’s comment of May 17, in which she stated that “Georgia has a pro-Russian government and Ivanishvili is an oligarch,” and after that, the TV channel wrote that she did not get a seat in the parliament.

Based on “POSTV – Analytics,” this information was disseminated by Facebook users (1, 2), as well as Bondo Mdzinarishvili, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcaster, and Ghia Abashidze, a pro-government expert. Ghia Abashidze’s post, in which he calls the MEPs “megaphones of the UNM sect” and “pseudo-liberals,” was published by the pro-government Imedi TV channel.

The information that Markéta Gregorová was not elected as a member of the European Parliament at the last elections is not true. The political party of the Czech MEP won one seat, and Gregorová became an MEP again.

The European Parliament elections were held from June 6 to 9 in the EU member states. As of June 12, the results had not been fully counted.

Czech politician and activist Markéta Gregorová is a member of the Pirate Party. In the European Parliament, this political party is part of the Greens/European Free Alliance group. According to updated information on the website of the European Parliament, the Czech Pirate Party received 6.20% of the vote in the election and won one mandate in the European Parliament.

Markéta Gregorová wrote about her re-election as MEP on the social platform X (formerly Twitter). In her post, the politician thanked everyone for their votes and support and said that she has a lot of work ahead of her, but that she is ready to continue defending the liberal voice.
