“Myth Detector Laboratory” was launched in 2017 on the basis of the fact-checking portal “Myth Detector,” in the framework of the partnership between the Media Development Foundation (MDF) and the Deutsche Welle Akademie (DWA). MDF has been implementing the project for eight years now, uniting more than 338 youngsters who have successfully completed the media literacy course.
In 2023, the project acquired a regional scale; in addition to Georgian students, the project now unites youngsters from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
The course is being carried out through an active learning approach and aims at equipping youngsters with necessary critical thinking and OSINT skills to verify false information/visuals. In addition to theoretical components, the course also envisages an internship component at Myth Detector’s editorial team. In the framework of the internship program, from 2017 to 2024, students have prepared 621 investigative articles, some of which have been published at EUvsDisinfo, Poynter Institute and CoronaVirusFacts Alliance.
