On July 15, a photo of Spanish footballer Marc Cucurella was circulated on social media, showing him at the award ceremony after the 2024 European Championship final. In the photo, the Spanish defender appears to have a tattoo depicting the map of Georgia on his leg. The description reads, “This says it all, Manuchar Cucurella’s tattoo of the Georgian map.”

The photo received significant attention on Facebook.

The circulated image has been altered, likely created with satirical intent. Marc Cucurella does not have such a tattoo on his leg. It is worth noting that in recent weeks, jokes about Cucurella’s supposed Mingrelian origin have been spreading actively on Facebook.

The outline of the Georgian map on Marc Cucurella’s leg shows clear signs of digital manipulation. In the video footage of the award ceremony following Spain’s victory in the 2024 European Championship final, it is evident that the footballer has no tattoo on his right leg.

Satirical posts about Marc Cucurella have been actively circulating on social media since the round of 16 match between the national teams of Georgia and Spain. Most of these posts highlight the similarity between the sound of the Spanish footballer’s surname and Mingrelian surnames, humorously claiming that Marc Cucurella is Georgian.
