On July 8, in Giorgi Akhvlediani’s program “Anatomy of Liberalism“, which is broadcast by the pro-government POSTV, journalist Data Gvasalia said that in 2018, Disney allocated more than 100 million to finance children’s clinics and, among them, financed gender clinics – the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Blank Children’s Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and an online medical portal that offers gender-based services for children.

“Anatomy of Liberalism” disseminates the information about Disney’s funding of children’s clinics manipulatively and presents it as if the company funded gender clinics for the purpose of promoting gender reassignment for children. In fact, the funds allocated in 2018 were used to create a comfortable environment for children in clinics – including showing cartoons, creating themed rooms, etc.

The “Anatomy of Liberalism” story is titled “Media Support for Perversion” and includes allegations of how major media outlets and companies support “LGBT propaganda.” The story mentions Disney along these lines and points to an ABC NEWS article dated March 7, 2018, about the company donating more than $100 million to care for hospitalized children and their parents. The text of the POSTV journalist, according to which the funded hospitals include “gender clinics”, gives the impression that Disney funded the hospitals for this very purpose – to support gender reassignment and hormone therapy procedures.

In fact, “Anatomy of Liberalism” makes a manipulative claim about the intended purpose of Disney’s funds. In the ABC NEWS article shown in the story, the Walt Disney Company has given more than $100 million to hospital comforts for children and their families. The plan was announced in March 2018 by Disney Co. Chairman and CEO Robert Iger. Internal resources allocated by the company included cash, products and services and were aimed at helping children not only in the US, but in clinics around the world. The program was to last for 5 years. In the speech, the director explained that Disney could bring comfort to children and parents going through difficult times.

“Using the powerful combination of our beloved characters and legendary creativity, we’re planning to transform the patient experience in children’s hospitals around the world – creating a personalized and engaging atmosphere that will inspire young patients and ease the stress of a hospital stay.” – we read in the article.

An article with the same content was also published on Disney’s official website. The article discusses initiatives they want to implement during the project – such as themed rooms, interactive Disney character displays, bed sheets and robes featuring children’s favorite characters, mobile “play carts” that include Disney-themed games and activities for family members, Disney movies and television shows to be available both in rooms and in hospital cinemas, training for doctors, nurses and staff.

One of the first hospitals to implement the initiative is Texas Children’s Hospital, where the photos used in the article show young patients and an animator dressed as Disney characters.

The Texas Hospital is one of the largest pediatric and women’s health care facilities in the United States, with up to 4.9 million patients, according to recent data. Approximately 7,000 women give birth in the clinic every year. The hospital is consistently ranked among the top four pediatric hospitals in the US and has one of the best outcomes for treating neurological diseases. The journalist of “Anatomy of Liberalism” manipulatively refers to it as a “gender clinic”. Although the clinic has specialists who work with gender differentiation disorders, this does not mean that Disney’s support for providing this service to children is isolated or used only in this department.

Like Texas Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has many departments. It offers services to patients in a number of directions, for example, it has an oncology center, as well as anatomical pathology, neurology and dozens of other departments, information about which is given on the website. The same can be said about Blank (1;2) and Los Angeles Children‘s Hospitals.

Accordingly, in the story, which will touch on “LGBT propaganda” in the West, the example of Disney’s financing of children’s hospitals and information that they are “gender clinics” is given in a manipulative way. The journalist’s text creates the impression that Disney funded the clinics to support these procedures, when in fact the initiative was intended to create a comfortable environment for children and parents in the clinics, including through animators, cartoons and games.

Accordingly, the story by pro-government POSTV creates a manipulative narrative about the allocation of funds by Disney. The journalist’s text creates the impression that Disney funded the clinics to support these gender-related procedures, when in fact the initiative was intended to create a comfortable environment for children and parents in the clinics, including through animators, cartoons and games.

False and manipulative claims voiced in the program “Anatomy of Liberalism” have been debunked by “Myth Detector” a number of times in the past. For more details, see:
