On August 21-22, the Facebook page, Gogaggg, and a Facebook account shared a photo featuring the United National Movement party, Levan Khabeishvili, and artist Gia Bugadze. Next to them, a painting is shown depicting a naked Levan Khabeishvili. Some Facebook users perceive the painting as real and believe that it was painted by Gia Bugadze.

A photo fabrication is being spread concerning Gia Bugadze’s painting of Levan Khabeishvili. Bugadze did not paint the image circulating on Facebook; instead, he painted a portrait of the beaten politician. Khabeishvili himself shared a photo of the real painting.
On August 20, Levan Khabeishvili posted a photo with Gia Bugadze on social media. As Khabeishvili wrote in the post, he is the one depicted in the paintin

In the photo shared by the politician, we can see that Bugadze’s painting is different from the one circulating on Facebook. The real version depicts Khabeishvili’s portrait, not a naked politician. Accordingly, the circulated photo is an edited version of the one published by Khabeishvili.
On May 1, 2024, Levan Khabeishvili was beaten during a protest against the so-called “agents law.” In the portrait painted by Bugadze, Khabeishvili bears injuries similar to those he sustained after the beating. It is likely that the artist painted the politician’s post-beating appearance.
The dissemination of the photofabrication about Khabeishvili is part of a discreditation campaign against him. He has repeatedly been targeted by disinformation and visual manipulations, several of which have previously been verified by Myth Detector. Read more in the following materials:
