Late at night on 26 October, Davit Katsarava posted on Facebook that a house had collapsed in Mamati village and a family with two young children was spending the night in a cowshed. In another post, Katsarava asked if anyone could provide the location of the incident.
At 01:33 AM, the pro-government media outlet Imedi published a statement from the Lanchkhuti municipality, denying the information that a family with young children was forced to stay in a cowshed due to a house collapse in Mamati. A representative of the Lanchkhuti municipality confirmed to Myth Detector that the municipality had provided the statement to Imedi TV.
Shortly after Imedi published the statement, Davit Katsarava posted on Facebook that the information about the house collapse was not confirmed. However, he added that he still planned to enter the village with other volunteers.
Due to heavy snowfall in western Georgia, the situation in the Guria region is difficult. The snowfall has resulted in casualties. Road closures have restricted emergency medical services in the region, and access to some villages is blocked. There are also issues with electricity, gas, and water supplies. The heavy snowfall caused damage to houses. According to the mayor of the Lanchkhuti municipality, about 40 houses have been damaged. Communication with some villages has also been disrupted. Since February 20, the educational process in Guria has been suspended, and several suburban train routes have been canceled. Official agencies report that emergency response efforts are ongoing to assist the population. Meanwhile, a group of volunteers has been formed to help those affected in Guria.
