The claim that activist Sandro Kinkladze was arrested for attacking the TV Pirveli filming crew is disinformation. According to the Special Investigation Service, which is investigating the obstruction of the media’s professional duties, Kinkladze has not been detained in connection with this case.

The attack on TV Pirveli’s filming crew occurred yesterday, 7 December, on Besiki Street during a live broadcast at 22:12:22, when a frame featuring Maka Chikhladze appeared during the program “Nodar Meladze’s Saturday.” Masked assailants physically assaulted the cameraman and journalist, seizing their equipment, including a microphone and camera.

The activist is represented by lawyer Lasha Tsutskiridze, who visited him at the Digomi detention facility in the morning. According to Tsutskiridze, Kinkladze was detained under Article 173 of Georgia’s Administrative Offenses Code, which pertains to disobedience to lawful orders of law enforcement. As of now, the charge has not been reclassified.

Article 173. Non-compliance with a lawful order or demand of a law-enforcement officer, military service personnel, and officer of the Special State Protection Service.

The case of intervention in the media’s professional duties is being investigated by the Special Investigation Service. According to the service’s press office, Sandro Kinkladze has not been arrested in connection with the attack on the TV Pirveli filming crew. The agency reports that the investigation is ongoing; some CCTV cameras have already been seized, while work continues on others.

Myth Detector also contacted the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office. According to the office, no criminal charges have been filed against Kinkladze. Therefore, at this stage, official statements confirm that the activist is being charged under the Administrative Offenses Code.

It should be noted that at 10:37 PM, approximately 20 minutes after the attack on the TV Pirveli filming crew, Kinkladze shared footage of the attack on his Facebook account.
