On December 4, the anti-opposition Facebook page “Conservative Flank” and an anonymous Facebook user, Giorgi Iberieli, shared a photo that, according to the description, shows personal items seized from Nika Gvaramia’s office at the political party Ahali. The photo depicts various sex toys arranged on a table.
Disinformation is being spread regarding the search of Nika Gvaramia and the office of the political party Ahali. In reality, the photo was taken in 2019 at the office of the political party Girchi and is being falsely linked to Gvaramia to discredit him in the context of current events.
The photo circulating on social media was taken in 2019 and is unrelated to the searches conducted in the offices of political parties on December 4, 2024. In fact, the image depicts a “brothel” set up in the office of Girchi. In May 2019, the party, which advocates for the legalization of prostitution, used this method to express their protest.
“We believe that any activity that does not involve violence and is based on a voluntary agreement between two adults is honest work. This includes prostitution as well. The only way to put an end to this tragicomedy and to protect people from violence, including frequent violence from law enforcement, and to prevent sexually transmitted diseases is the full legalization of prostitution. That is why today we are opening a brothel, named ‘Pioneer,’ in one part of Girchi’s office,” said Zurab Japaridze.
Thus, the photo depicting sex toys is unrelated to the search of the office of the political party Ahali. The authors of the Facebook posts falsely connected it to Nika Gvaramia to discredit him.
On December 4, police conducted searches in the offices of opposition parties, including Ahali, Droa, Girchi – More Freedom, and the United National Movement. On the same day, searches were also carried out in the homes of civil activists. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, they seized “evidence,” including helmets, gas masks, pyrotechnics, transmission devices, computer equipment, Molotov cocktails, paint, and more. A member of the youth wing of the United National Movement, Beka Papashvili, accused the Interior Ministry of planting Molotov cocktails. The next day, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that after entering the party offices and “seizing weapons,” the violence “immediately ended.”
