Myth Detector is excited to announce our participation in a project focused on identifying and raising public awareness about AI-generated and digitally altered content, supported by Meta and coordinated by the European Fact-Checking Standards Network. The project will work with both the fact-checking community and the wider public to promote knowledge in this area ahead of the 2024 European Parliament elections.

In the coming days, Myth Detector and 30 other fact-checking organizations across Europe who are members of the EFCSN will run a public awareness campaign about AI-generated and digitally altered content ahead of the 2024 European Parliament elections. Myth Detector will share a video, infographics, and a one-pager that have been translated into 27 European languages.

This public awareness campaign and the assets we will share are the culmination of a survey and series of workshops Myth Detector has participated in over the past several weeks.

The survey gathered insights from fact-checkers about how they work to identify and fact-check or debunk AI-generated and digitally altered content, while also finding out the challenges fact-checking organisations face with this type of content, the results of which are summarised in the one-pager.

Based on these findings and in collaboration with experts in the field, Myth Detector and other participating fact-checking organisations have participated in workshops to define standards and train the fact-checking community in identifying and debunking AI generated and digitally altered content.

AI@EUElections is a joint project of the European Fact-Checking Standards Network and its participating member organisations, funded by Meta.
